"This hotel is a 5 minute subway trip from everything, it was clean and safe. A great place for people who are travelling to New York on a budget. Way cheaper than anywhere else, but entirely comparable to any regular chain hotel."

"Old hotel, don't expect thick towels but bathroom very clean, bath and shower taps made of aluminum that leaves marks on your hands, good size room, heating either on or off, beds ok but cheap pillows, good furniture in bedroom, small TV, carpet rather worn, generally well looked after, decor fresh but old-fashioned. Great location near subway on Broadway at 95/96 St W. Guess price (paid $110 + tax) is ok for Manhattan."

"For travellers on a limited budget (we are from New Zealand), it was great value in a very expensive city. We particularly appreciated being able to accommodate a family (4 people) in one room."

"The hotel was very close to the subway line so we could get around and the staff were so helpful with any questions. We got in really early from our flight from SLC and they worked really hard to get us in as early as possible so we could get some rest. That alone made our trip far more enjoyable."

"If you don't mind the subway ride to the Upper West Side the Newton is the only place to stay. I've been every type of room there, 1 bed and two, shared and private baths and loved them all. It's clean, modern, comfortable and an incredible bargain. I'm torn between spreading the word and keeping my own little secret."

"We were lucky to get a "suite" - our room had a small adjoining room with a couch and table, that helped de-compress us in the bedroom. The suite also had a little kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator and sink. Although we didn't use it this time, we might in future trips. The hotel was very convenient to Barnard College at Columbia University, which we were visiting. It was also right on the subway line and bus. Also, the $20/day parking fee couldn't be beat! The room was just perfect for a short stay! I have already recommended it to others."

"I had to stay in a "smoking allowed" room and the smell bothered me the whole time. There were no nonsmoking rooms available."
